Connecting the DJI O3 Air Unit Goggles & Remote ControllerUpdated 12 hours ago
This guide explains how to connect the DJI O3 Air Unit with DJI Goggles 2, DJI Goggles Integra, DJI Goggles V2, and DJI Goggles 3, as well as the DJI FPV Remote Controller 2 (RC 2).
Once all devices are activated, updated, and correctly bound, the drone is immediately ready to fly—no update or adjustment of the Flight Controller is necessary.
0) Safety & Preparation
Attach antennas before connecting the FPV drone / Air Unit to a battery. Without antennas, overheating and damage may occur.
Remove propellers for all ground work.
O3 Air Units heat up quickly on the bench since there is no internal cooling fan in the drone. Complete binding within a few minutes to avoid overheating.
For activation and firmware updates, a USB-C connection is sufficient—no flight battery is required. A battery is only needed when binding Air Unit ⇄ Goggles ⇄ Controller.
Location of the Air Unit & USB-C ports
Depending on the drone, the O3 Air Unit may be installed in the front third or rear third of the frame.
The USB-C port in the middle of many builds belongs to the Flight Controller (FC), which is only for Betaflight/FC settings.
For Air Unit activation, updates, and linking, always use the USB-C port directly on the O3 Air Unit.
Remote Controller compatibility
DJI FPV Remote Controller 2 (RC 2): Fully supported with O3.
DJI FPV Remote Controller 3 (RC 3): Not compatible with O3.
1) Software: Activation & Firmware Updates
1.1 Install DJI Assistant 2 (Consumer Drones Series)
Download and install (Windows/macOS).
Launch DJI Assistant 2 and log in with your DJI account.
1.2 Activate & Update the O3 Air Unit
Connect the O3 Air Unit via USB-C to your computer.
In DJI Assistant 2, select the device and run Activate.
Then run Firmware Update and wait until it shows Completed.
Note: Non-activated Air Units may be power-limited and block menu access in the goggles.
1.3 Activate & Update Goggles
Goggles 2 / Integra / Goggles 3: Update via DJI Assistant 2 (or DJI Fly App for activation).
Goggles V2: Update via DJI Assistant 2.
1.4 Activate & Update the Remote Controller
DJI FPV RC 2: Connect via USB-C to the computer → open DJI Assistant 2 → Activate and Update Firmware.
2) Compatibility
Air Unit | Goggles | Remote Controller |
---|---|---|
O3 | Goggles 2 / Integra | RC 2 |
O3 | Goggles V2 | RC 2 |
O3 | Goggles 3 (in correct mode) | RC 2 |
Important:
Goggles V1 are not supported.
RC 3 is not compatible with the O3 Air Unit.
3) Linking (Binding)
For the connection between goggles, Air Unit, and controller to work, the goggles must be set to the correct transmission mode.
With Goggles 2 / Integra: Select O3 Air Unit mode.
With Goggles V2: Select DJI Digital FPV System / O3 mode in the menu.
With Goggles 3: Switch to O3 compatibility mode under Transmission. Goggles restart after changing.
Not supported: Goggles V1 cannot connect to O3.
Steps: O3 Air Unit + Goggles + RC 2
Put the goggles into Link mode
In the goggles menu, choose Link/Pair (or hold the power/link button until the goggles beep/LED blinks).
Bind the O3 Air Unit to the goggles
Power on the drone with a battery (antennas attached).
Press the link button on the O3 Air Unit → LED blinks → after a few seconds, live video appears in the goggles.
Bind RC 2 to the goggles
Power on RC 2 and hold the power button until it beeps/LEDs run.
Put the goggles back into Link mode → wait until the beeping stops.
Done: Video is visible in the goggles, and RC 2 inputs control the drone.
4) Common Issues
Low power limit (20 mW) and locked menus: Air Unit or goggles not activated.
No RC link: Only RC 2 works with O3. RC 3 is not supported.
No video feed in goggles: Check that the correct transmission mode is selected (O3 mode for Goggles 2/Integra, O3/Digital FPV System mode for Goggles V2, O3 compatibility mode for Goggles 3).
Air Unit overheating during setup: Perform the binding quickly, ensure good airflow, and never power the Air Unit without antennas.
5) Important
No firmware update of the Flight Controller (FC) required—our drones ship preconfigured.
The drone is only flight-ready once all DJI devices are activated, updated, and correctly linked.
