Setting up TBS CrossfireUpdated 7 months ago

1. Update Firmware

Before you start, ensure your transmitter and Crossfire module are running the latest firmware. This is critical for smooth functionality.

  • Update Crossfire Firmware:

    • Download and install TBS Agent M.
    • Connect your Crossfire module via USB to your computer.
    • Use TBS Agent M to check for and install any firmware updates.
  • Update Transmitter Firmware:

    • If you use an OpenTX/EdgeTX radio, ensure your radio’s firmware is up-to-date, particularly the Crossfire support module.

2. Install Crossfire Module in the Transmitter

Insert the Crossfire module into the back of your radio transmitter and power it on.

  • Configure the Radio Settings:
    • Create a new model in the radio’s settings.
    • Turn off Internal RF as the Crossfire module uses External RF.
    • Set External RF to CRSF (Crossfire) mode.

3. Binding Crossfire Receiver

Once the module is installed, you need to bind it to your Crossfire receiver (RX).

  • Power up your drone, ensuring that the receiver is properly connected.
  • Press the bind button on the Crossfire module or use the binding command through the transmitter.
  • The receiver will automatically enter binding mode when powered up for the first time.
  • iFlight BNFs with TBS Crossfire receivers have been paired before at the factory for quality control inspection.
  • Wait for the successful bind confirmation on your radio’s display, indicated by a solid green light or signal bars.

4. Configure Betaflight Settings

After binding, you need to configure Betaflight to work with the Crossfire system.

  • UART Setup:

    • Open Betaflight Configurator and connect your flight controller to your computer.
    • Go to the Ports tab.
    • Enable Serial RX on the UART that your Crossfire receiver is connected to.
    • Save and reboot.
  • Receiver Setup:

    • Go to the Configuration tab in Betaflight.
    • Under Receiver, set the protocol to CRSF (Crossfire).
    • Save and reboot.
  • Check Channel Mapping:

    • Under the Receiver tab in Betaflight, verify that stick movements are properly registered.
    • Use the channel mapping to ensure the correct channels are set (e.g., TAER1234 for Crossfire).

5. Adjust Failsafe Settings

Crossfire provides advanced failsafe options that can be configured directly through Betaflight.

  • Navigate to the Failsafe tab in Betaflight and set your desired failsafe behavior (e.g., dropping the drone or returning to home).

6. Test Your Setup

Before flying, test your setup to ensure everything is working correctly:

  • Ensure your Crossfire system is transmitting data and that the receiver is bound.
  • In Betaflight Configurator, verify that all transmitter inputs are reflected accurately.
  • Arm your drone safely in a test environment to confirm the connection and control.
